日本引以為豪的E-PON(有人稱GE-PON) 1Gb/1Gb, 自從G-PON 2.5Gb/1.25Gb問市後, 市場占有率節節敗退(尤其是北美, 歐洲幾乎是G-PON的天下), 很明顯趨於劣勢
但前幾天IEEE終於核准10G E-PON的規格標準了, 上下傳速度高達10G/10G, 市場可能又要扭轉了, 值得注意, 但10G G-PON 10G/10G難道是省油燈, 也許很快也會被ITU核准

IEEE Approves 10G EPON Standard
The IEEE has approved the 802.3av standard for 10G EPON. 802.3av is known by the rather extensive title “Standard for Information Technology – Telecommunications and Information Exchange Between Systems – Local and Metropolitan Area Networks – Specific Requirements Part 3: Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Detection (CSMA/CD) Access Method and Physical Layer Specifications Amendment: Physical Layer Specifications and Management Parameters for 10Gb/s Passive Optical Networks.”

Some of the carriers expressing support for the standard include
China Mobile Communications Corporation,
China Telecom,
China Unicom,
KDDI,
KT,
NTT Corporation,
Telekom Malaysia.
