視封包地址、決定路徑方法等，都在此層運作。因之，網路層最主要的功能在於路徑轉接 (routing)、建立或

解除網路、網路多工 (network multiplexing)、封包交換 (packet switching)、網際網路管理 (Internet

management) 和網路定址 (network addressing) 等。屬於網路層的通訊協定有IP、X.25、IPX、DDP

(AppleTalk 的資料傳輸協定)等等。

主機對主機的傳送所以前提每一台主機都是唯一的，當Ａ電腦要傳到遠方的Ｂ電腦時，
會先判斷是否在同一網域內，如果不同的話他就會傳到route去，讓route去負責將資料傳到Ｂ電腦。

packetizing:網路層將從上一層傳來的封包給封裝起來，並且製成一個新的封包，網路層會加入新的表頭檔。

IP是獨一無二的，用來做傳輸用，當Ａ要傳資料給Ｂ時，就要有一個位址像是打電話一樣要有電話號碼，來確

定Ｂ的位址在哪。
